Beirut Journal Day #39: Nighttime Skies from Far Off Places

a surge
from the sea
splits the stones
and suppresses
silence while street lights
needle the night
in the distance
a barge brings
its cargo closer
to some far off border

this is not a metaphor
i have wandered far
from those whom i love
